Saint Francis Medical Center Laboratory

Saint Francis Medical Center Laboratory is comprised of the following sections: Anatomic Pathology, Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Histology and Support Services. In addition, The outreach laboratory service is known as Saint Francis Regional Laboratory.


The laboratory is fully accredited by the College of American Pathology (CAP). Additionally, compliance is maintained with The Joint Commission (TJC) laboratory standards and Department of Health and Human Services Food and Drug Administration's regulations. The laboratory participates in an external audit system which challenges the integrity of internal testing methods. The CAP proficiency testing program and the API proficiency testing program are comprised of comprehensive surveys which are each performed periodically throughout the year. Results of these surveys are reported to the Health Care Finance Administration.

The main laboratory is located on the Saint Francis Medical Center Campus at Entrance 4: Registration Center. The main laboratory performs test requests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Technical personnel are always present, including weekends and holidays. Outpatients may be registered 24 hours per day, 7 days per week at this entrance. Registration Patient Access Specialists are staffed 5:30 am until 8 pm. After 8 pm, Admissions staff are available by phone to respond to the Registration desk if after hour availability is needed.

All outpatients must have a written laboratory order or a verbal order received by the laboratory from their healthcare provider. Written orders must follow verbal orders within 30 days. Some tests require special preparation. Please call the Main Laboratory at 573-331-5147 for instructions.

Saint Francis Regional Laboratory- Outreach laboratory services

Saint Francis Regional Laboratory specimen collection is located on the Saint Francis Medical Center Campus at Entrance 2. . Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm.

All outpatients must have a written laboratory order or a verbal order received by the laboratory from their healthcare provider. Written orders must follow verbal orders within 30 days. Our fax number is 573-334-7036. Some tests require special preparation.
