Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Plasma

Collection Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin gel) tube

Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial

Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Draw a baseline cortisol before Cortrosyn administration.
2. Administer 0.25 mg of Cortrosyn (reconstituted with 1 mL ampule NaCL 0.9%) by intramuscular injection.
3. Draw cortisol specimens at 30, 60, and 90 minutes after Cortrosyn administration. Times will vary according to ordering physician.

4. Label specimens appropriately (baseline, 30-, 60-, or 90-minute).

Additional Information:

1. Do not begin test immediately after insulin administration.
2. Indicate draw times.
