Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive in laboratory immediately after collection.

Specimen Type: Spinal fluid

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile vial

Specimen Volume: 1 mL (from third vial collected in a series of 3)

Collection Instructions: Label each vial with patient’s name (first, last, and middle initial), medical record number (if appropriate), date of birth and/or Social Security number, date and time of collection, and order in which vials were collected.

Additional Information: Specimen source is required.
