Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Perirectum or rectum

Container/Tube: Eswab, white-cap, containing flocked swab

Specimen Volume: Swab

Collection Instructions:

1. Pass swab beyond anal sphincter.
2. Rotate swab and withdraw.
3. Place swab in sterile culture transport tube.

4. Label container with patient’s name (first, last, and middle initial), medical record number (if appropriate), date of birth and/or Social Security number, date and time of collection, and source of specimen.
