Specimen Requirements

Specimen source is required.

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Preferred:

Specimen Type: Vaginal fluid

Container/Tube: Clean, glass slide in plastic slide holder

Specimen Volume: Slide

Collection Instructions:

1. With a lead pencil, label frosted end of clean, glass slide with patient’s name (first, last, and middle initial) and source of specimen.

2. Collect specimen at bedside.
3. Spread a thin layer of cells on slide by rolling swab across non-frosted end of slide.

4. Allow slide to air dry and transfer to a plastic slide holder.

5. Label slide holder with patient’s name (first, last, and middle initial), medical record number (if appropriate), date of birth and/or Social Security number, and date and time of collection.

Specimen Type: Vaginal fluid

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container

Specimen Volume: A minimum of 200 µL

Collection Instructions: Label container with patient’s name (first, last, and middle initial), medical record number (if appropriate), date of birth and/or Social Security number, and date and time of collection.
