Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Cervical

Container/Tube: FFN polyester swab and FFN specimen collection tube supplied

Specimen Volume: Swab

Collection Instructions:

1. Specimen must be obtained prior to digital exam. Do not contaminate swab with lubricants, soaps, or disinfectants.

2. Obtain an ectocervical specimen with swab.

3. Lightly rotate swab across cervical os or posterior fornix.
4. Remove swab and place in collection tube.

5. Label tube with patient’s name (first, last, and middle initial), medical record number (if appropriate), date of birth and/or Social Security number, and date and time of collection.
