Testing Algorithm

Initial testing includes:  Lupus-sensitive activated partial thromboplastin time (PTT-LA) and dilute Russell's viper venom time screen (DRVVS).

If PTT-LA and DRVVS are normal, a computer-generated interpretive comment indicating no evidence of a lupus anticoagulant will be provided.

If PTT-LA or DRVVS are prolonged, thrombin time (TT) will be performed to check for heparin contamination.

If PTT-LA is ≥ 42.0 seconds, mix will be performed.

If PTT-LA mix ratio is ≥ 1.2, hexagonal (II) phase phospholipid neutralization assay confirmation (StaclotLA) will be performed.

If DRVVS ratio is ≥ 1.2, DRVVS mix will be performed.

If DRVVS mix ratio is ≥ 1.2, DRVVC confirm will be performed.

If any test results are abnormal, interpretative comments will be provided.

A positive profile should be repeated on a new specimen after 12 weeks to determine if the inhibitor is transient or chronic.
