Specimen Requirements

Specimen type: Throat

Container/Tube: Liquid Amies Swab Collection Kits containing: 1 Collection Swab and Liquid Amies Medium, 1 mL. Acceptable collection kits include Copan ESwab Collection Kit and Becton Dickinson Liquid Amies Elution Swab (ESwab) Collection and Transport System. DO NOT use cotton or calcium alginate swabs, or swabs with wood shafts.

Collection Instructions: Remove sterile swab from packaging. Rub the swab tip up and down the back of the throat and tonsil area. Insert the swab into 1ml of Amies transport media tube. Swirl the swab against the inside wall of the tube 3 times. Break the swab shaft and leave the swab in the tube. Attac the cap securely.
