Specimen Requirements
Specimen type: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collected by lumbar puncture
Collection container/tube: screw-capped, sterile CSF vial
Specimen volume: 1 ml from third or last CSF vial collected
Collection instructions: Label each vial with patient's name (first, last and middle initial), medical record number (if appropriate), date of birth, date and time of collection, and order in which vials were collected. Do not centrifuge, dilute or otherwise process the sample prior to testing.
Specimen Stability
Ambient (preferred): 24 hours
Refrigerated: 7 days
Frozen: Not acceptable for testing
